Jonathan Drawing
So I had a moment of mommy self doubt the other day when my friend Erin posted her son's awesome drawings. Are my kids supposed to be doing this??? My kids make nonsense! Casey can (sort-of-kind-of) write a few letters, but people? No way!!!

I put it out of my head for a while, until this morning when they were sitting at the table with pencils and paper scribbling away. I asked them to explain their drawings to me and, as usual, was given very elaborate descriptions involving dragons and forests and magical do-da-dids. But still... it was really just a violent mess of chicken scratch.

So, I asked them to each draw me a picture of a person.

And, wouldn't you know?

They did.

Kids Drawings
Casey drew his best friend, Merrick. With a dragon, of course.
Casey's Drawing of Merrick
I have been assured the dragon is NOT violent.
Jonathan's Drawing of Uncle Jeremy
Jonathan drew his Uncle Jeremy. Who, for the record, does not wear glasses.

Reason Number Eighty Bajillion That Daddy Is SO Much Cooler Than Mommmy.

"Mommy, let's go play the ball game!"

"Sorry, the arcade is closed down. No more skee ball."

[...ten minutes later.]

"Daddy, let's go play the ball game!"

"Sure kiddo, let me grab some cardboard from the garage!"

Skee Ball!

TomAto, TomOto...

Playing on the iPad

[SCENE: my parents' house in south Florida; family room]

Casey: Mommy, I need help with the touch computer.

Me: We don't have an iPad.

Casey: Yes, Mommy, come help.

Me: No, that was Uncle Casey's iPad, he took it home.

Casey: Yes, Mommy...

[Casey walks away into the bedroom hallway]

Casey: [yelling from the hallway] Mommy, come HELP! Mooooooommmmmy!!!

[I pry myself out of the lazy-boy and amble toward the hallway]

Casey: [dragging a flat screen monitor by the cord] See, Mommy! I found Grandpa's touch computer!

Me: Oy.

NOT an iPad

Where Do They Come Up With This Stuff? Surely Not From Me.

[Scene: Garage where Wesley is doing something manly with hammers and nails. Probably also crushing beer cans on his head.]

[Casey enters wearing only his tightey-whiteys]

Casey: "Daddy, I have a phone call for you!"

Wesley: "Oh, really?"

Casey: "Yes!"

[Casey reaches down the front of his underpants and pulls out an old cell phone]

Casey: "Here, Daddy! It's Uncle Casey! He wants kisses!"

[Wesley dies a little bit inside]

Wesley: "Um. No thanks, bud."
