Blah, Blah, Blah... Sappy Holiday Post... Blah, Blah, Blah.

Christmas Eve Dinner
The holiday season makes my heart so happy. I love any excuse to gather family and friends. To play games and clink glasses. To show people how much they mean to me. (Hey, family? Friends? You mean the world to me.) If it were my choice, we'd all live on a compound and have a party every month. Sunday brunches and Wednesday dinners. Impromptu charades and twinkle lights everywhere.

But also really well insulated walls. Because holy crow, we are loud.

Even when we squabble and expectations aren't met (I'm looking at you, Mom), I still want them near me. Because they are my heart and my soul and the wind beneath my wings.

Okay, maybe not that last part.

(But then again, maybe so.)

Our holiday schedule is packed and harried. It's full of late nights, skipped naps, and more than a few epic meltdowns. It's also rife with hugs and cuddles. With belly laughs and inside jokes. And a whole mess of inescapable traditions. Not that we'd ever want to escape them.

We have Danielle's Nasty Christmas Party on Christmas Eve Eve, then Christmas Eve dinner at Mom and Dad's (which is really more of an afternoon into the late night kind of event), Christmas breakfast at Mom and Dad's followed by our traditional pajama picture. Presents at Mom and Dad's, then the inevitable argument about whether to force naps. (We never do). Off to Grandma's for more presents, then finally naps. Back to Grandma's for dinner and whining, then back to Mom and Dad's for games. This year it was Bananagrams and a home brewed charades-style game. Last year it was Rockband on the Wii. Every year it's fun. We wrap it all up with a leftovers party at Sally's on the 26th where we lament that it will be another whole year before we do it again.
